Mycorrhizal mats and the small animals of forest soil
Comparing soil within and outside dense fungal networks.
Study published:
Small forest communities
Hysterangium setchellii mycorrhizal mats were compared with nearby non-mat soil in a Douglas-fir forest. [1]
More life in the mats
Mats had greater microbial biomass and more microarthropods, amoebae and ciliates. Respiration and enzyme activity were also higher. [1]
A connection with our Center
For our educational archive, we want to document small spatial differences within a landscape. We propose comparing samples with clear photographic records of their collection points.
Presentation context
The summary concerns the particular forest and fungal species. The educational connection is our own.
