Bacteria and fungi: following their activity

Stamatiadis, Doran and Ingham combine staining and inhibitors in a soil experiment.

Study published:

The study’s question

Bacterial and fungal contributions to soil respiration were investigated using microscopic measurements, staining and inhibitors. [1]

Responses change with time

Bacterial activity was primarily associated with the initial response to glucose. In inhibitor-treated samples, indirect or non-target effects also appeared later. [1]

An educational question for our Center

In our educational archive, we want to record examination time relative to sample collection and preparation. Observations will then have a shared time frame. This connection is our own proposal for organising microscopy work.

Presentation context

The presentation draws on the published abstract. Inhibitors are tools of this particular experiment, rather than a proposed management practice.
