Soil food webs under C3 and C4 grasslands
A comparison examines different vegetation within the same research setting.
Study published:
The communities measured
Bacteria, fungi, protozoa and nematodes were compared beneath C3 and C4 grasses in Iowa grasslands through repeated sampling. [1]
The differences observed
Bacterial biomass and ciliates were greater under C4 grasses. Other major groups had similar levels, while communities varied among sampling dates. [1]
Our educational direction
We want our educational records to keep vegetation, date and observed organism groups together. We can then revisit records and formulate clearer questions about a field. This is our own editorial synthesis.
Presentation context
We use the technical abstract and publication date recorded by USDA for the particular grasslands studied.
