Compost and extract in corn production: a SARE report
Results from a Rodale Institute project led by Elaine Ingham.
Research project completion:
The publication’s focus
The experiment compared compost, extract and their combination with standard conventional management, with four replicates. [1]
The central message
The combination had higher organic matter: 3.41% versus 3.07% in the control. Grain yield differences were not statistically significant. [1]
Questions for practice
This example helps us organize soil, production and cost measurements separately. For a local trial, we would want a clear record of initial management, interventions and harvest for each plot.
Reading the source
A supplementary project outside the original list of 74. Organic amendments were applied in addition to conventional management.
