Fungal hyphae: sample preparation affects measurement
Lodge and Ingham compare agar-film preparation techniques for microscopy.
Study published:
What was compared
The paper compared three techniques for preparing agar films and discussed two methods for estimating fungal hyphal length. [1]
The main finding
Coverslip-well films produced less variable length estimates than films prepared using hemacytometers or micropipettes. [1]
A question for our Center
In training, we want preparation described as clearly as the image being observed. We plan consistent records of each sample’s handling and repeated examinations. This is our own priority for organising the educational laboratory.
Presentation context
The presentation draws on the published abstract comparing microscopic methods. The source link leads to the original paper.
