Biocides in forest soil: effects on non-target organisms
A study examines different groups within the soil community together.
Study published:
The soil community in focus
Biocides were tested in forest soils, monitoring bacteria, fungi, protozoa, nematodes and microarthropods. [1]
Effects beyond the target
Every tested treatment also affected non-target organisms. For example, captan reduced bacteria and nematodes, while combined oxytetracycline and penicillin reduced active fungal hyphal length. [1]
A connection with our training
For our Center, the paper prompts records organised around the whole community. We want application history to accompany samples and microscopic images. We can then discuss observations with better knowledge of each field’s context. This connection is our own educational synthesis.
Presentation context
This presentation draws on the published abstract of the experiment with the particular substances and forest soils examined.
